2012 Olympic Swimming
2012 will be the final Olympics for the all time great swimmer Michael Phelps. He is has, again, qualified in 8 events and is expected to compete in all of them with the possible exception of the 200 meter freestyle. However, he has not looked as dominant as he did in 2008 and will have teammate, Ryan Lochte, as a co-favorite in many of those 8 events. In addition, the traditional rivalry between the United States and France will be as hot as ever with the U.S. trying to defend their Gold Medals and the French looking to reclaim the top spot in the world of competitive international swimming.
On the women's side the United States, France, Australia, and South Africa will all be vying for dominance in this year's competition. For the United States, 17 year old Missy Franklin, Allison Schmidt, and Jessica Hardy plan on leading the the rest of their teammates against a strong contingent of international swimmers led by Camille Muffat of France in the intermediate Freestyle races and Russia's Anastasia Zueva in the short backstroke races.
