Closing Ceremonies
The Closing Ceremonies wrap up the Olympics and bring the whole event to a close. They are designed to promote international peace and friendship as well as cooperation among countries on the international stage. To this end, the athletes parade into the stadium as one big group, and not separated by country. The closing ceremonies are also a chance for the athletes, the organizers, the volunteers, and the people of the host country to have one last big party (featuring musical groups, dance numbers, and light shows) and send off for both the international athletes that will be leaving as well as for the Olympic Games which will likely not return to that country for an extended period of time.
The Closing Ceremonies are also an opportunity for the host country of the next Olympic Games to be introduced. This generates excitement for the next one, four years later, and also helps to connect each Olympics with its predecessors and its successors, creating the image of one big event and global movement.
