Geography
Athens is the capital city of Greece and lies on the Southeastern Peninsula of the country. The region is predominantly mountainous with ranges that extend all the way into the sea as well as all the way north to the Albanian, Macedonian, Bulgarian, and Turkish borders. The regions weather is characterized by hot, dry summers and temperate but wet winters and is constantly affected by the wind and rain that result from the Mediterranean Sea’s weather patterns. In addition, Athens is very susceptible to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions due to its location on top of a “box” of fault lines extending in multiple directions.
