Running
I began running in 7th Grade on the Oakwood Junior High Cross Country Team and in the 9 years since then it has taken me State and National Championships and races all over the world. I began running Track in 7th grade as well and it quickly became my favorite sport and would develop into a lifelong passion.
As a high school runner I competed in the distance events including the Mile, Two Mile, the 4 X 800, and the 2000 meter Steeplechase during Track season and the 5K during Cross Country season. I ran 40 to 50 miles a week, training myself to eventually be at the level that allowed me to compete in two National Championships in Track (running the 2000 meter Steeplechase both times) and three National Championships in Cross Country. I capped off my high school career by competing in the 2009 OHSAA State Championship in the 4 X 800.
As a collegiate athlete I have had an up and down career. I began at Clemson University but got hurt within the first two weeks of running on the varsity team. This sidelined me for 6 months and when I finally was able to start running again I chose to run with the more relaxed Club team and coach myself. I competed in Cross Country and Road Races across the Southeast as well as one NIRCA Cross Country National Championship but I missed the intensity and competitiveness of NCAA racing. So after two years at Clemson I transferred to Tiffin University to run for Hall of Fame coach, Ron Martin. Under his tutelage I have upped my weekly mileage from 40 to the mid 70s and have set Personal Records (PRs) in almost every event from the 800 (about a half mile) to the 8K (about 5 miles) while becoming a stronger and more confident runner along the way.
Following my career at Tiffin I will have one more year of NCAA eligibility which I hope to use in Law School and then I plan on continuing to run post-collegiately while hopefully coaching Cross Country and Track as well.
