Today started off with a trip to Greenwich which is a village and a park just outside of London. But even though it is so close it feels like you have left London completely and entered a small town with everything from rare bookshops to family cafes, pubs, and a church. I also went there to visit the Royal Observatory which sits directly on top of the Prime Meridian, allowing you to stand on both sides of the world at the same time! Unfortunately, the Observatory was closed due to the Olympic Equestrian event but I was still able to hang out in the village and spend some time in the park, watching other Olympic events on the big screen!
From Greenwich I headed back into the city to the Tower Hill Station in order to see Tower Bridge, with the Olympic Rings hanging from it, and the Tower of London. However, when I left the Tube Station it had started to rain and they had put the rings up under the bridge to protect them from lightning, so I'll have to stop by there again before I leave. I was able to walk around the Tower of London and see all the turrets and towers that currently protect tie Crown Jewels of England.
I decided to take a break after that and headed back to the Clink to watch some events on TV and nap before meeting my friends for dinner. I also took the time to find a race that is being run next Saturday and that I think I can win, depending on who shows up and who doesn't!
To cap off the night I met up with some of my old scouting friends whom I had met the last time I was in London, 6 years ago. So Nick Conduit, Sam Davis, JJ Davis, Katie Davis, Dan Warren, and myself all had dinner together and spent a few hours catching up on the past 6 years and talking about the Olympics and everything else until they kicked us out and closed shop! So a pretty good way to end the night and spend my last day as a 20 year old.
